Too Little or Too Much Iron Poses Serious Health Consequences

Both, just to confuse you more. The truth is, it can be either, depending on your situation and age. Here’s the deal:Iron is an essential mineral throughout life, as a carrier of oxygen in blood and as an integral part of proteins and enzymes involved in metabolism. A deficiency of iron limits oxygen delivery to cells, resulting in symptoms that range from fatigue to impaired immunity. Iron-deficiency anemia is more typically a problem for children and premenopausal women. For men and postmenopausal women, a greater risk is from too much iron.
