According to a Cochrane review of 15 clinical trials, zinc syrup, lozenges or tablets taken within a day of the onset of common cold symptoms could reduce the severity and length of the illness in healthy people. However, the researchers reported that the optimum dose, formulation, or length of treatment is still unknown.
