GI Upset? Fructose in Foods Could Possibly Be to Blame

Q. Can sugar cause GI upset?

A. Yes, in some cases. One sugar in particular, fructose, has just been fingered as possibly causing more than its share of problems. If you experience chronic gastrointestinal (GI) problems like bloating, gas and diarrhea, fructose could be the culprit.
