Diet Combo Fen-Phen in Hot Water
In an unusual move, a prestigious journal has released study findings early, prompting the Food and Drug Administration to warn physicians of a potentially deadly problem for users of the wildly popular weight-loss drug combination nicknamed "fen-phen" (fenfluramine plus phentermine). The Mayo Clinic study reports on 24 otherwise healthy, middle-age women who developed a rare, but serious heart valve condition. Some required surgery. All were taking fen-phen at the time.
